This is a "normal" vocabulary and grammar week. Vocabulary sentences will be due on Tuesday. The vocabulary assignment on Edmodo and grammar packet will be due on Thursday. Quizzes will be on Friday.
We are starting History Alive chapter 15 this week which covers the Bill of Rights. The test should be some time towards the end of next week depending on how quickly we move through the reading, notes, and mastering the information.
A bonus assignment for social studies is being posted to Edmodo today; this optional assignment is due next Monday 2/5.
Our class will be visiting the book fair on Wednesday. Students may bring money to shop during our class visit time Wednesday, if they would like.
Students with numbers 11-19 have their next reading response letters due on Friday 2/2.
We will be starting Freedom Walkers this week, which covers the Montgomery Bus Boycott during the Civil Rights movement. This book ties in to our nonfiction studies as well as The Liberation of Gabriel King, which we are reading for our current writing unit.
My math class is working through chapter 5. This is an abbreviated chapter and I anticipate the Chapter 5 test being next Monday 2/5.
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day around 2:30 on that day. If your student would like to pass out valentines, please remember that no food items may be attached or distributed at school. There are 19 students in our class; a class list of names will be sent home this week.
Global Play Day is also coming (2/7). We will be playing from 2:30-3:25 on this day. Fifth grade students do not need to bring in any specific types of games or toys (just nothing electronic!). Here is a message from Mrs. Wasik with more details.
Mrs. Thompson will be presenting to the 5th grade math classes content related to Erin's Law the week of February 26. Students in Mr. Holston's math class will attend the presentation on Tuesday, February 27. Students in my math class will attend the presentation on Monday, February 26th and Mrs. Helm's math class will attend the presentation on Wednesday, February 28. Mrs. Sessler shared information in her update for parents wishing to opt out of this presentation. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. Mrs. Thompson always does a fantastic job handling difficult topics with students in a sensitive way, and we've always been impressed with how she's presented this information to our students.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions and have a fabulous week!
