Our trip to South was great! The kids left with a little bit of nerves, but A LOT of excitement! While the students are naturally a little nervous about transitioning to the larger school, they are really looking forward to the various extra activities, changing classes, and of course-the lunches!
The kids have all been working very hard on rehearsing for the highly anticipated 5th Grade Musical! Don't forget that these performances will take place on Wednesday, May 6th at 2:30PM and 7PM. Students should arrive for the evening performance around 6:40PM.
Friday was another AMAZING World of Work experience. A HUGE thank you to ALL of the parents for helping support the kids. From helping them choose their outfits, supporting the businesses, helping chaperone, and of course those on the committee for the work experience and the luncheon-everyone's role and support were so necessary and appreciated for ensuring a great day!! I am so incredibly proud of all of the students. They all looked great and seemed to be very invested and excited about their various jobs! Here are some pics to enjoy from the day (honestly, how cute are they?!)!
In math, we are now into our Hands-On Equations algebra unit. The kids seem to really be enjoying the hands-on experience! There is an app available for purchase that allow students to "interact" digitally with the pieces we use in class and complete practice problems. This app is not necessary, but has been helpful for some students who want/need a little extra practice at home.
We will be doing the End-of-Year PARCC testing on Tuesday, May 12, Wednesday, May 13th, and Friday, May 15th from 1:10-2:25. Tuesday and Wednesday are Math tests and Friday will be English Language Arts.
Please be on the lookout for information coming soon from District Office about math placement procedures for next year, as well as Advanced Language Arts Placement and Testing.
The "Important Dates" tab on the website has been updated, so please check there for all upcoming events, such as the PARCC Schedule, days off, and Field Day!
Midterm grade updates were sent home in Friday Folders this past Friday. Please be sure to ask your child to see their grade report. Remember that these are not report cards, they are a current breakdown of the assignments, tests, and quizzes at this moment in time. This has been a great tool for students to reflect on their progress and set some goals. It is very common to see some spring fever and 5th grade-itis at this time of year. There is still a whole month of grades to come and I have found that students seeing where they need to maintain or where they need to step-up their efforts can be very beneficial. Please talk with your child about their grades and celebrate with them where their hard work has paid off. Also discuss with them any areas in which some increased efforts may be beneficial for the next month. We have had these conversations in class, but support from all angles is always helpful! :) Please let me know if you have any questions.
I am looking forward to all the fun learning and activities that will be rounding out our year together!!
