We have some busy weeks ahead of us before spring break. Here are some things to know:
We're back to science! We started our study of matter last week and will be continuing this week and next. The unit test is tentatively scheduled for March 8th or 9th.
In my math class, we are just starting Chapter 8. This is will be a slower chapter due to our schedule, PARCC testing, etc. When we actually get some momentum going, I will update with a tentative test date.
Mrs. Thompson will be visiting the 5th grade math classes this week to present content related to Erin's Law. Mrs. Thompson is scheduled to come to my class today, Monday, Mr. Holston's math class on Tuesday, and Mrs. Helm's math classes on Wednesday.
We are wrapping up Freedom Walkers this week. The final test will be on Chapter 7 on Thursday.
Students with numbers 11-20 have their next reading response letters due this Friday.
Students also received a permission slip on Friday for Remember the Titans. Please return this permission slip no later than Wednesday. If you have concerns about the viewing of this film, please don't hesitate to let me know.
The Robert Crown Linda/Michael presentation will be Thursday. This presentation highlights the changes puberty brings for each gender. The girls will attend the Linda presentation with Mrs. Schindler, Mrs. Melton and me, while the boys will attend the Michael presentation with Mr. Holston. The Robert Crown presenters really do a great job talking about these sensitive topics; be sure to follow up with your students afterwards, as they'll likely have many questions and thoughts!
Mr. Skidmore visited the 5th grade classes on Friday to introduce the 5th grade shoot-out fundraiser. This is a traditional 5th grade event to raise money for a class gift to the school. Students received packets with information and pledge forms on Friday.
PARCC testing is quickly approaching! We will be completing some practice sessions this week just to familiarize students with the format of the test and tools available on the online assessment. The 5th grade PARCC testing schedule is listed below; please schedule student absences around these dates/times, if you are able.
