What are the costume guidelines for school?
As you are planning for your child’s costume for our Halloween celebration, please remember that we are a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school. Costumes that may be appropriate for older children or adults can be quite frightening to younger children. School appropriate costumes should not include sharp objects, weapons, “squirting or dripping” blood, unnecessary gore, or anything violent or immodest in nature. Students may not bring any type of toy or real weapon (knife, gun, sword, claw, hooks, etc.) as an accessory to their costume. As a school, we model tolerance and acceptance, so please avoid costumes that target any specific ethnic group. Please help us by selecting costumes that are safe and provide mobility.
When should my child wear his/her costume to school?
Morning Kindergarten should wear their costumes to school. All other students wear their costumes after lunch. First through fifth grade, please do not apply your child’s makeup before sending them to school in the morning.
When does morning Kindergarten parade?
Morning Kindergarten parades at 9:15 a.m. They will start their parade on the blacktop, then they will parade through the school.
Can I send treats to my classroom?
Due to allergy concerns, if you are sending classroom treats they need to be store bought and individually wrapped. No homemade treats will be distributed. If you do send store bought treats they will be given to students as a “goody bag” to eat at home.
Can my child go home for lunch to change into his/her costume that day?
Yes. Parents must write or email a note to the classroom teacher stating your child will be going home for lunch that day. If a note is not provided, parents must come into the building and sign out their child to go home for lunch.
When is the lunch period?
The lunch period is from 11:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m. The students should return to school by 12:45 p.m.
If my child stays at school for lunch can he/she change into their costume at school?
Yes. Following lunch recess, the students who stay for lunch will change into their costumes before the parade begins. The staff members who volunteer to help with costumes do not have a lot of time to apply makeup. Avoid sending sending any materials in aerosol cans (hair spray, hair color, silly string, etc.)
What is the parade route?
The parade, led by Mrs. Sessler, will leave the front doors of Dryden approximately 1:15 p.m., and head north on Dryden to Fairview, west on Fairview to Bristol, south on Bristol to Rockwell, east on Rockwell to Lincoln, returning to the school playground area.
Following the parade, the students will have a brief recess period, then return to their classrooms for special fun activities planned by teachers and parent volunteers.
What if it rains on that day?
If it rains we will parade indoors. A message will be sent to parents via School Messenger.

We make every attempt to maintain an appropriate learning environment during morning instruction. Your cooperation will assist us in making Halloween a day for both learning and celebrating. We’ll see you at the parade!
- Many thanks to all the parents working together to plan the 5th grade Halloween party. If you will be a volunteer at the class party, please be sure to come in prior to the 30th to have your license scanned, if you have not already done so this school year. This will ensure that you do not need to wait in line the day of the party to have this done.
If you would still like to volunteer in some way, the link is here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b094aa8ac29a46-5thgrade
Ingredient lists for the snacks that will be served will be sent out shortly.
On the academic front, we are now learning about the rising tensions in the colonies during the 1760s an 1770s. We will have our first History Alive test on Chapter 10 on Friday morning. There is a review playlist posted to Emdodo and also linked under the "For Students" tab on this website.
We will shorten our week for spelling, grammar, and vocabulary this week due to Halloween and the History Test. Grammar and vocabulary assignments will be due Wednesday and our quizzes will be on Thursday.
Reading logs for student numbers 12-21 are due by Friday. As a reminder, all students should have a nonfiction book ready to read and practice with as we learn more about how to get the most out of our nonfiction reading during this Schoolwide Unit.
We are continuing our Character Counts Week and encourage all students to wear Red on Monday and Blue on Tuesday!
Have a great week!
