It also seems crazy that the first trimester is coming to an end already! Over the next two weeks we will be wrapping up many units and projects and doing a lot of reflection on our first trimester together. I am looking forward to meeting with you all in 2 weeks to discuss the amazing learning and progress over the past few months, as well as what to look forward to as we move through the remainder of the fifth grade year. If there is anything in particular you would like to discuss at conferences, please feel free to give me a heads up. I like to keep the choice of whether or not students join us for conferences up to the parents. I see the value in having students be a part of the conversation, but I also see the value in an adult conversation about progress, as well. Please know that it is up to each of you whether you want to include your child.
This week the students have:
Tuesday-No School
Wednesday-Math Chapter 2 retake for this who choose to in my class
Thursday-Human Body Unit Test
Friday-Nonfiction Unit test
Friday-Personal Narratives due
***We will not have spelling, grammar, or vocabulary this week or next while we wrap up our other areas. We will resume that normal routine after Thanksgiving week.
***Reading Response letters for numbers 13-24 are due this Friday, 11/11; numbers 1-12 are due on 11/18; and then no students will need to turn in a response over Thanksgiving break. Numbers 13-24 will be due again on Friday 12/2.
You may have seen a new reading log come home last week. This is part of the Chicago Blackhawks Reading Program. Participation is optional, but all interested students should return their completed logs to Mrs. Kenney by November 28. Students do not need to register online (Mrs. Kenney is graciously taking care of that for us!), but more information can be found here.
Lastly, I will leave you with some pictures of our learning activities and many pictures from the super fun 5th Grade Halloween Party-Thank you SO much to all of the amazing parents who helped set up, organize, and run stations for the kids!! Have a great week!!
