Luckily, our day at Camp Duncan turned out to be a wonderful day!! It started out just a bit chilly, but by the end of the day the sun was shining and it was simply a beautiful day to be outside! The kids had a blast as they worked together on various team challenges, all tried out the climbing wall, gave their best effort in archery, played some intense games of Ga-Ga Ball, and took a nice bike ride around the grounds. Here are some pictures (some better quality than others-action shots are not easy!):
We do have our History Alive Chapter 12 (The Declaration of Independence) test on Friday. Resources for studying can be found on Edmodo.
The students will also be taking a Reading Binder Quiz on Friday. There is no study guide for this, as the students will be using the reading binders we have been putting together and organizing throughout our first unit to complete the quiz. Next week we will begin our Nonfiction Unit. During this unit we will be asking students to increase the amount of nonfiction reading they are doing and request that they have a nonfiction book ready to read and practice our skills throughout the entire unit.
I am still looking for a few more Robert Crown permission slips. If you have not yet sent yours in, please do so as soon as possible.
We have sent home a form asking what students will be doing during the lunch-hour on Halloween. Traditionally many students go home for lunch and these forms help us to plan for who needs supervision, who is leaving, and how many students will be staying at school. If you could please send these in as soon as possible, it will greatly help us in planning for that day.
I would like to end this blog post sharing another little story about how empathetic, considerate, and wonderful this class is. With one of our classmates missing out on the Camp Duncan trip and missing some time this week, the class not only came up with the idea, but also voted unanimously to wait on planning their first earned reward for good behavior. They have decided to wait until we have our whole class together and to ask the student who missed Camp Duncan what he would like to do, since he missed out on the field trip. Hearing the whole class suggest the idea and then decide upon this (with only nods of encouragement from me initially!) made my heart so happy. I am so proud of all of them! With that, have a great rest of your week!
