This week we dove into spelling and grammar. We started off with reviewing short vowel sounds and types of sentences. Mrs. Schindler kindly shared various resources on Edmodo to help the students review these skills and prepare for today's quizzes.
In Treasures this week we worked on identifying character traits and how those traits can impact the events in a story. Our overall theme was "contests" and they students all had such great ideas to share about what goes into preparing for and participating in contests!
In social studies we covered Chapter 10: The Rising Tensions Between Colonists and Britain. We read through the chapter, compared the events to how a parent and child may interact, and did an activity called The King's Skittles. The students were all colonists being taxed their skittles for various things like writing on their shirt, pencils in their desks, and toys in their backpack. They really saw what it was like to have the little bit they had taken away for everyday items in their lives! We will be taking the chapter 10 test on Wednesday.
WEX has been very exciting with so many wonderful writers wanting to share their descriptive stories! I feel badly we haven't had time to hear all the stories that everyone wants to share! I am hoping to see this excellent writing and sharing continue! :)
In math we are learning about factors, square numbers, and square roots. We have some great little math brains in here! Our Unit 1 Test will be Thursday or Friday next week.
The class has worked so well together this week. We did a lot of partner work and group work, which was awesome.
I hope you all have a wonderful, long weekend! Stay cool out there!
