The 5th grade service project last week was a huge success! Students were eager to help each day with the collection and organization of donations. Many students selflessly sacrificed several lunch recesses to help with this project. Big thanks to all who contributed and to Mrs. Topps and Mrs. Doyle for heading this up!
A big thank you to all who contributed to our Valentine's Day party Friday, 2/13. Thank you Mrs. Mather, Mrs. McKay, Mrs. DeCook, and Mrs. Grave for helping run the party and/or type up the nice-word compliments lists for all the kids. They were so fun to see!
As the end of the trimester and our spring break are coming up, we are wrapping up many units. We just took our Math Unit 7 test and will begin Unit 8 (More Fractions and ratios!) this week.
We have wrapped up our Human Body Unit and will be testing on Monday (2/23). After that we will switch back to a few chapters in History Alive. We will be studying the branches of government, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.
Friday we took our novel tests and turned in ABC books based on the novels the students all just finished. The conversations about these novels, all having a "survival" or "perseverance" in children theme, were rich, insightful discussions.
PARCC testing (the new ISAT, for lack of a better description) will begin the week of March 3. 5th grade is currently scheduled to test the afternoons of March 3, 4, 6, 10, and 11. If you are able to schedule appointments and absences around these dates/times, that would be great. We will begin right after lunch, so any students who go home for lunch need to be sure to return on time.
Personalized Learning is in full swing! Students have been pre-searching and working on developing researchable, open questions. Be sure to ask your student about where he/she is in the process and what question was developed in this last week.
Tuesday we were treated to a PTA Assembly by Be the Groove. This was a very fun experience!
Have a great week!
